The Amigos del Tango 20th Summer Tango Camp was organized at Solvalla Sports Institute, Nuuksio, Espoo from August 4th to 6th 2023.
Summer Tango Camp is meant for dancers of Argentine tango at all levels, including beginners. We arrange workshops at four levels: beginner, improver, intermediate and advanced. For the first time, this year there will be a workshop group for double role dancers. You can read more on workshop groups and levels at Groups page. The scheduled program for the camp can be found at Program page.
The teachers for the improvers, intermediate and advanced classes this year are Nina Krook & Alejandro Herlan, Carina Quiroga & Arttu Artkoski and Nadia Tapia & Daniel Valenzuela. The beginners' course is taught by Seita Keloluoto & Ari Sirén. The double role group is taken care of by German Andrea Ehses & Sandra Hoyer and the teaching is in English. All teachers' introductions can be found at Maestros page.
You're not dancing tango yet? No worries! On Saturday and Sunday we offer a full beginner course on Argentine tango with an introduction lesson on how to dance in a milonga – this is a great way to start this wonderful hobby. Welcome!
You can join the camp either with a Full Pass that includes workshops, milongas, sauna sessions, meals and accommodation, or with a Camp Pass that includes the same but without accommodation and breakfasts. NB! This year the lunches and dinners are included also in the Camp Pass. Please see more info at pages on Accommodation and Prices.
You can of course attend only the milongas if you like! There will be four milongas: evening milongas on Friday and Saturday at Solvalla hall, and day milongas on Saturday and Sunday at Nature Centre’s Haltia hall. Come and enjoy wonderful summer days full of tango, surrounded by forests and lakes! Music will be played on Friday by dj Emma Murros, on Saturday by dj Jaana Hänninen (day) & dj Satu Laaksonen (evening) and on Sunday by dj Anna Koroleva-Herlan.
The two milonga venues are situated in buildings next to each other. On Saturday at 19 (before the evening milonga) there'll be a milonga etiquette introduction class for new dancers in the Solvalla hall, and milonga guests are welcome to join as well. Nature Center Haltia's restaurant serves visitors until 21 hrs on Friday and Saturday and until 18 hrs on Sunday. In the evening milongas snacks will be sold for affordable prices. You are welcome to bring your own picnic basket and drinks. We do not serve alcoholic drinks but you can also bring your own bubbles!
This year we will fully enjoy Solvalla’s fine lakeside saunas: both morning and evening sauna sessions are available for camp participants on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the limited size of the saunas they are only available for participants attending the workshops, teachers plus camp volunteers.
For those living in Finland, the participation in Summer Tango Camp requires membership of Amigos del Tango ry (except for the beginner course and milongas). The camp is organized (except for teachers' and DJ's salaries) entirely by volunteers. You can join the association here (membership fee €25/year): tango.fi/jaeseneksi
The summer camp is organized at Solvalla sports institute, which is located on the shore of Lake Pitkäjärvi in Espoo, right next to the Nuuksio National Park. The address is Nuuksiontie 82, 02820 Espoo. You can easily get to the place by public transport from Helsinki (direct bus 245 / 245A from Espoo train station) or by your own car - there is plenty of parking space! You can explore the campsite on Solvalla's own website.
So book the days in your calendar and SIGN UP! See you in Solvalla in August!
